David Sheff authors new book about addiction
Over the past week or so you may have seen or heard an interview with David Sheff. Mr. Sheff is a journalist and New York Times bestselling author. He is widely recognized for his personal memoir "Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction" published in February 2008; in fact, we wrote about it in June 2009.Mr. Sheff's new book is "CLEAN: Overcoming Addiction and Ending America's Greatest Tragedy." According to David Sheff's website his new book offers new insights and suggestions about overcoming addiction:
"Addiction is a preventable, treatable disease, not a moral failing. As with other illnesses, the approaches most likely to work are based on science — not on faith, tradition, contrition, or wishful thinking. These facts are the foundation of Clean, a myth-shattering look at drug abuse by the author of Beautiful Boy. Based on the latest research in psychology, neuroscience, and medicine, Clean is a leap beyond the traditional approaches to prevention and treatment of addiction and the mental illnesses that usually accompany it."
David Sheff is interviewed by Judy Woodruff of the PBS Newshour
