David Sheff's "Beautiful Boy" To Be Adapted For Film By Cameron Crowe!

Our copies of "Beautiful Boy" and "Tweak"
Oscar nominated and Academy Award winning director Cameron Crowe announced a new film project, Beautiful Boy. It is reported Crowe will direct the film and also plans to write the script's screenplay incorporating both Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction by David Sheff and the memoir Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines by Mr. Sheff's son Nic Sheff.

Perhaps you are familiar with Cameron Crowe's resume. While his works are many and he has won numerous awards, notably he was nominated for Best Writing and Best Picture for Jerry Maguire and won the Academy Award for Best Writing for Almost Famous

Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction is a best-selling memoir first published on April 26, 2008. The writing of the memoir followed Mr. Sheff writing an article for the New York Times Magazine in 2005 called "My Addicted Son." The memoir covers most of Nic's life and deals with how Mr. Sheff struggles with how to respond to a son he loves, but who is also a danger to his family. The actor Martin Sheen offered these thoughts after reading Beautiful Boy:
"Those of us who love an addict - or are addicts ourselves - will find Beautiful Boy a revelation. David Sheff knows all too well what must be endured with faith, and his extraordinary book describes it better than anything else I've read. While painfully candid, Beautiful Boy is equally optimistic and powerful."
We are very familiar with both Beautiful Boy: A Father's Journey Through His Son's Addiction and Tweak: Growing Up on Methamphetamines. Our Whiteside Manor blog was launched on June 16, 2009, and our third and fourth posts dealt with these two memoirs. Each continue to be read almost weekly.

Today we look forward to Mr. Crowe's production based on Beautiful Boy and Tweak. Undoubtedly it will be powerful and dramatic, a film for both parents and children to learn and understand that addiction is a family disease, it is baffling, and it is deadly, but recovery is possible for both the addict and the family.
