Mitch Winehouse Speaks Out

Three months ago the pop star singer Amy Winehouse died from complications related to drugs and alcohol. A number of people were surprised, while others thought it was only a matter of time. The polarized opinions are irrelevant, a talented individual lost the battle with her addiction and it is sad either way you cut it.

The fact of the matter is that Amy, while perceived as a wild child of music, she was, to those who knew her, much more than that. Winehouse’s father, Mitch Winehouse, has signed a deal with HarperCollins to show the world who Amy actually was. Titled “Amy: My Daughter”, transports back to Amy’s early years as well as her chaotic trip into the world of super stars.

The book isn’t an attempt to make money off of her death but rather a plan to raise money for the my Winehouse Foundation, which he established in her honor to support young people struggling with substance abuse; but, the financial terms for the book deal have not been disclosed.

"I feel that I need to write this book to tell the true story of Amy, and to help my personal recovery," said the singer's father.

Amy Winehouse was a complex soul with an interesting sound from the past accented with a modern twist, the book looks into, "the many layers of her life together — the personal, the private and the public," according to a HarperCollins statement.

“I believe that through Amy's music, her foundation, and this book, her name will live forever,” Mitch Winehouse said.
